Location: Gaza Strip.


Gaza Seafront project facility is intended to serve people with and without disabilities as a public recreational space and to provide safe access to the beach.
The project is considered a pioneering initiative where the idea came through out participatory planning for place-making.

The project achieves its goals considering the following criteria.

  • Accuracy and design quality-functionality.
  • Accessibility and inclusion.
  • Safety.
  • Water, material, and energy efficiency.
  • Sustainability.
  • Environmental and social impact measurements, and negative impacts mitigation.



The project promotes inclusion, access, and availability of green public space for recreational venues in Gaza City. The Gaza Seafront public space will empower communities to transform local open spaces into vibrant public places using a participatory bottom-up approach. The project components consist of constructing a community public site including children's activity/play area and other recreational facilities. The project includes (i) physical interventions (upgrade and beautification of the space), (ii) social interventions (ongoing community involvement & consideration of PWDs, women, and children in need), and (iii) environmental considerations for instance, planting of water-efficient flowers and trees, the use of efficient irrigation methods, supply of energy efficient lighting units operated by solar energy, and the solid waste separation at source through installing different waste bins for different types of waste
